Overview

One of the major advantages of the Managed WordPress is that the service comes with 30-days free backups. This can come in quite handy should you ever wish to revert your site to a previous date. Therefore, it may come as a shock if you check your service and suddenly see missing dates on your available backups. This guide will help you troubleshoot where the issue might be coming from, and some steps you can attempt to fix them.

Database is too large

If your database is over 1GB in size, the Managed WordPress may begin to experience issues creating new backups. Checking your database size can be quickly done through phpMyAdmin.

  1. Log into your (mt) Media Temple account.
  2. Access your database through phpMyAdmin.
  3. Your database size will be located in the Size column.
  4. You will also be able to see the size of each table, to see where the majority of space may be coming from.

If your database is over 1GB, you will want to truncate/optimize your database. For information on optimizing your database, feel free to check out our article below:

If your database is still too large, you may need to contact your developer or database administrator for them to take a closer look at the database to see what will need to be removed to get the size under 1GB.

Database is corrupted

A corrupted database can also prevent the creation of new backups. You can attempt to run a repair of your database through phpMyAdmin to see if this will fix the issue.

  1. Log into your (mt) Media Temple account.
  2. Access your database through phpMyAdmin.
  3. Select the corrupted database, or select Check All to highlight all tables.

Testing your fixes

After implementing your fixes, wait approximately 24 hours. Then check to see if new backups are being generated. If so, great! You have successfully resolved the issue.

If your database is below 2GB and you have also repaired your tables, but new databases are not being generated, feel free to contact our support line by opening a support request, starting a chat, or by calling us at 1.310.841.5500.
