    • Difficulty: Easy
    • Time: 5
    • Tools needed: Account Center access, SSH enabled

To get the most out of your VPS Hosting server, at some point you may need to install an application or change a configuration file that will require root/admin access. You can accomplish this by becoming the substitute user, super user or switch user.

Because you can do nearly anything when you are using root/admin access, it's possible to cause critical damage to your server. Therefore we not only recommend users to be very familiar with the root user, but also utilize backup options.

  1. Ensure root/admin acccess is enabled.
  2. Connect to your server using SSH.
  3. Run the following command:
    sudo su -
  4. You should now have root access.
