With Grid Hosting and the improved Shared Hosting platform, we've been offering two different environments for webhosting. To maximize our impact in delivering powerful technology, we have opted to move all customers to one, state-of-the-art environment.
What is Shared Hosting?
Shared Hosting utilizes Linux as its operating system and cPanel for its server interface. You can host many sites, built in numerous ways, with flexible bandwidth and storage limits, so it’s great for working with clients or even experimenting. Shared Hosting comes with a 99.9% uptime guarantee, and is built for fast load times. Our team also monitors and maintains the network and physical security around the clock to protect you from malicious attacks, like DDoS.
What is cPanel?
cPanel is a web hosting control panel software, similar to the Grid Control Panel that you may be familiar with. It provides a graphical interface and automation tools to manage your server. This includes: creating backups, managing databases, installing applications, and much more. cPanel is also the same control panel offered on our high-end VPS services, with an up-to-date software stack.
What do I have to do?
Domain(s) and DNS using Media Temple nameservers: We will automatically handle all the migration process for you. All you will need to do is check that everything is working once the migration is complete. We also recommend setting up backups on the new service.
If you are not using Media Temple nameservers: You will need to update your DNS to point to the new IP address. We will send your new IP address and a reminder to make the DNS changes once the migration is complete. Contact the company that manages your nameservers if you need assistance.

Will I be notified of my migration?
Yes, we will be sending email notifications to keep you informed:
- 7 days prior to migration
- Same day of migration
- Migration completion
Will my price change?
Grid Service, Personal, Pro, and Elite: There is no price difference between these Grid and Shared Hosting offerings. You will be migrated to a Shared Hosting tier that is equivalent in price. However, any active promotional discounts will unfortunately no longer be afforded once migrated to the upgraded offering.
Grid Lite: These services will see a $0.99/month increase when they are migrated to their Shared Hosting offering.
Which Shared Hosting service am I being migrated to?
You will be migrated to a Shared Hosting service that best matches your current price and features and based on your current utilization of the Grid product. Please refer to your migration notice to see which version of cPanel you will be migrated to.
What features come with my Shared Hosting?
Grid Service, Personal, Pro, and Elite: Our website will have the most up-to-date information for features on your new Shared Hosting service.

What is being migrated?
All your websites, hosted files and databases.
What about backups?
30-day File Manager backups will not be migrated. However, Shared Hosting includes a Backup Wizard that can be configured through cPanel. A general weekly backup is also set up on the new hosting platform.
What about email?
Grid email will not be included in this migration. You still will be able to access and manage your Grid email through the Account Center.
Will there be downtime?
You may experience some downtime during the migration, but we are working diligently to keep any downtime under a few minutes.
