Before you start

If you would like to install WordPress on your primary domain or any other already existing domain on your Grid, be sure to read the prompts on the screen as they appear.

(mt) Media Temple only supports the basic operation of our 1-Click installer, not the WordPress application. Please consult our Scope of Support for further details. You should also be aware of the following:

  • The WordPress version used in the guide below may not reflect the most recent version available in the Account Center.
  • Recent versions of WordPress, version 2.7 and later, feature an Automatic Upgrade. Click here for more information. You can launch the automatic upgrade by clicking the link in the new version banner or by going to the Tools -> Upgrade menu. After that, it should be straightforward.

Automatic Upgrades do fail sometimes though, so remember to backup your database first, and deactivate your plugins before starting the upgrade.

Watch this video to learn how to install WordPress on your Grid using the 1-Click Applications tool.

    1. Log into your Account Center.
    2. Click on the primary domain of your Grid.
    3. Click on 1-Click Apps in the Add-Ons box:

    4. Click on New App:

    5. Click the Add button for WordPress:

    6. Application URL:  Enter the URL that you want to want to install WordPress too, without the 'www':

DO NOT USE WWW. The www is not required as WordPress is smart enough to load your website at If you would like your site to always load with the www, then you can set that within the site url settings from the WordPress admin panel.

If the domain you want to use is not yet pointing to your Grid, go ahead and enter it; then view the site via your access domain. Once DNS propagation is complete, you can update the URL in your WordPress Dashboard by going to Settings > General. More info here:

    7. Database Setup: Please select New Database from the dropdown and give your database a unique name that will allow you to know it is WordPress, and with which domain it is associated.
    8. Database Table Prefix: Please provide a table prefix that will allow you to remember which domain your WordPress database is associated to. We suggest to have it end with a underscore for easier reading in phpMyAdmin.  After that, click Install.
    9. You may encounter a message informing you of a "Directory Conflict," similar to the message below:

      Don't worry; this is normal!

This message simply means that there is already existing content in the domain folder on your server (often, this is the default placeholder page for your domain). To resolve this issue, select Backup Content and Proceed. The installer will then copy the existing data from your "html" folder into an "html" folder with a timestamp (something like "html-2014-12-03-14:15:03-1170"), for retrieval as necessary.
    10. After the Pending Installation "state" completes, click on Finish.

If you try to access the domain before finishing the installation of WordPress, you will be redirected to the Account Center. This security measure prevents others from finishing your installation and gaining administrator access to your WordPress site.

  1. Provide your Blog Title as it will appear on your website and a valid email address. Then click Install WordPress.

  2. Be sure to take note of your username and password. Log into WordPress and start blogging!
