Overview

The following article contains instructions on how you can point your domain's email hosting to Media Temple.

Before Starting

Make sure you check your domain's nameservers!

If your nameservers are pointed to NS1.MEDIATEMPLE.NET and NS2.MEDIATEMPLE.NET, then you will enter the DNS information in the Media Temple Account Center.

If your nameservers are pointed elsewhere, then you will need to take the DNS information provided below, and enter it at hosting company where your nameservers are currently pointed to.

Email DNS

There are two DNS records required to point email to Media Temple:

  • MX-record pointing to mail.example.com (replacing example.com with your domain name)
  • A-Record pointing to your Mail Server IP address

Note:
You can find your Mail Server IP address in your Server Guide under the EMAIL SETUP Section:

Instructions

Nameserver pointed to Media Temple

By default, when you add your domain's zone files to your Media Temple account it should automatically generate the required email DNS. But if for some reason you need to manually enter them, you can do so by editing the DNS records for your domain:

Nameserver pointed to third-party host

If your nameservers are pointed at a different hosting company, then you will want to take the DNS records provided above, and contact the third-party host directly for instructions on how to edit/update DNS records on their side.
