Overview
This article explains (mt) Media Temple policy related to domain disputes.
Defining ownership
Account Owner. The highest authority of a single specific Account is the Account Owner. Individual services that are associated with an Account, are controlled by the Account and its Account Owner. The Account Owner is established at the time the Account is created. The details of an Account Owner must be that of a real person. It is not permitted to use fictitious or "fake" names for the details of an Account Owner. Accounts containing fictitious or "fake" names, and contact details that do not reflect the details of a real person may be suspended or terminated.
What we can do
If you are the listed registrant for the domain in dispute, you may be able to take possession of the DNS Zone File. You must provide the following:
Registrant listed as an individual:
- Copy of government issued photo ID.
- Documentation establishing Registrant status for the domain in question.
- Completed "Proof of Domain Name Ownership" form, available at our Legal Page.
Registrant listed as a business:
- Copy of government issued photo ID.
- Documentation establishing Registrant status for the domain in question.
- Completed "Proof of Domain Name Ownership" form, available at our Legal Page.
- Articles of Incorporation for business listed as the Registrant.
- Proof that the petitioner is an authorized agent for the company listed as the registrant.
These documents may be faxed to 310-388-0929 or emailed to verification@mediatemple.net. Please allow up to 3 business days for processing.
What we cannot do
We will never transfer data or website files. Per our terms and conditions, such files are the property of the (mt) Media Temple Account Owner even if you are the owner of the domain name.
Media Temple does not get involved in legal disputes. We are unable to offer legal advice or arbitrate any dispute between you and the listed (mt) Media Temple account owner. We strongly advise retaining an attorney for such situations.
If you are not the listed Registrant of the domain in question, but feel that you are supposed to be, you will need to file a petition with ICANN, the governing body for domain registrations, in accordance with the Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy.
