(mt) Media Temple Joins Internet Infrastructure Coalition

Washington, DC — Today, (mt) Media Temple, a leading provider of web hosting and cloud services, announced that it has joined the Internet Infrastructure Coalition (i2Coalition). With 41 current member companies, the i2Coalition is comprised of key players representing global and U.S. Internet infrastructure providers and related tech firms. The i2Coalition officially launches this week with an inaugural video from co-founder and Board Chair Christian Dawson highlighting the mission and goals of the organization. Visit www.i2Coalition.com to view the video.

(mt) Media Temple took an early stance against SOPA when it was first introduced in the United States House of Representatives and Senate by making their website dark on January 18, 2012. Media Temple believes that more work is required in order to achieve a balance to control online piracy while continuing to promote innovation, job creation, and free expression. The i2Coalition, which began in 2011, supports the trailblazing enterprises that make significant private investments and drive innovation for the “nuts and bolts” of the Internet &mash; including web hosting and data center providers, registries and registrars, software and service delivery and cloud computing services.

“As the battle over SOPA/PIPA made clear, it’s important for individuals and firms who believe in maintaining the openness of the Internet to stand together,” said Media Temple CEO Demian Sellfors. “The i2Coalition is a powerful way for us to do that. Now those of us who have the biggest stake in technology’s future can ensure that our voices, and those of our customers and constituents, will be heard.”

Media Temple shares the common goal of the other i2Coalition members: to be the principle voice and leading advocate for the Internet infrastructure industry. The coalition will facilitate public policy education and advocacy, develop market-driven standards formed by consensus and give the industry a unified voice. Members will receive the support and tools they need to be heard in Washington and by their state and local officials across the country. “We believe the continued expansion of the Internet is vital for fostering economic growth in the U.S.,” said Christian Dawson, i2Coalition co-founder and Board Chair. “The i2Coalition will serve as a liaison between its members, the public they serve and policymakers to ensure that the Internet infrastructure industry continues to harness the full potential it has for creating jobs and driving innovation in the United States.”

According to a market research study by Tier1 Research, the Internet infrastructure industry generated and estimated direct and indirect $46 billion in annual revenue in 2010 with expected 20% growth by 2013, and a trade flow to the United States of $9.2 billion. (mt) Media Temple supports maintaining the freedoms and openness of the Internet that provides an essential voice to the aspirations of people everywhere.
