Customer Spotlight: Roaming Hunger

Roaming Hunger started in 2009 in Los Angeles, California, as a simple passion project: A web directory for food trucks. Since then, the company has evolved into a multi-pronged resource for the food truck industry. This includes an app that provides real-time tracking for more than 7,000 popular food trucks and carts across the country, booking food trucks to cater events, and helping companies (both large and small) host local food truck promotions. It’s little wonder that Roaming Hunger is the connection between food trucks and their loyal fans.

When it came to designing your website, what sort of aesthetic were you shooting for?
Food trucks, and the sites that host them, should be fun. We wanted to make sure our site was easy to use but also communicated the vibe of the food truck community. Aesthetically, we wanted to make sure it utilized pointed imagery so visitors could get a visual understanding of the cool events, promotions, and amazing trucks we work with.

What is your creative process like?
The company has grown on feedback from our food truck vendors and our clients. As we build new features and products, we rely on market response so we know what to build next. From there, we can meet those needs by translating them into new products or services.

What’s your favorite part about running your Roaming Hunger?
The fact that I was able to turn my passion into a career. I became fascinated with food trucks while studying abroad in Hong Kong. During my time there, I had the chance to try a wide variety of amazing street food. That experience turned into a passion that is now a company with 40+ people in the office and a massive network of food trucks. Coming to work every day is electrifying.

If you could pick a dream partnership, what would it be?
We’ve worked with major companies including Apple, LinkedIn, Google, Facebook, Toyota, Under Armour, and Shake Shack, to name a few. But really? The White House. I would love to help build a food truck entrepreneurship program for low income areas and first time entrepreneurs from those areas. Food trucks can bring healthy, fresh food anywhere. So getting the White House on board would be super cool.

What is one thing that people should know about Roaming Hunger?
In order to be successful, you have to be surrounded by a team that believes in the mission just as much as its CEO. But really, we’re a passionate group of foodies who like to have fun! And yes, we definitely have a different food truck come to the office at least weekly… and you can too.
