(gs) Updates. Gen 2 Upgrade, WordPress 2.8 and More…
There’s more progress to report to you this week. This is what we’ll be covering:

Gen 2 Upgrade Progress
We’re at about 90% completion of a full Gen 2 transition for Clusters 1 and 2! As mentioned, the Gen 2 upgrade is a 2-phase project; with storage transition occurring first, followed by full-system architecture updates.
Gen 1 > Gen 2 Storage Transition Near Completion
We have been moving roughly a terabyte of user data per day. Less than 1,000 sites remain on Gen 1 storage bringing us to ~95% storage transition completion. We project completing the full storage transition within the next week. Further details on all of this will be revealed once we finish with the migrations. Expect a juicy rundown in the next (gs) Updates post!
Total Gen 2 Upgrade Status
Recently, in addition to the ongoing storage transition, we’ve added some additional Gen 2 hardware to Clusters 1 and 2. This nets us more redundancy and also accelerates the migrations away from Gen 1 storage, bringing these two clusters closer to being completely Gen 2 compliant.
General Grid Updates
Anti-Spam Update
The anti-spam efforts referred to in our last post are paying off. We’ve stopped a significant amount of spam (tens of thousands a day) from leaving our network. By making this global change to the GRID’s outgoing mail policy, the reputation of affected machines will continue to improve.
This is great news for both legitimate users of web scripts and our webmail users. But we’re not finished. Coming down the line are further improvements to outgoing spam scanning. We will outline these smarter detection and prevention changes, in detail, in future updates.
WordPress 2.8, 1-click installer/upgrade available
Our WordPress 1-Click Installer & Upgrader now supports version 2.8! Within 24 hours or so, you can expect to see the updated 1-click in your AccountCenter.
Hot, new WordPress 2.8 features include the browsing AND installing of themes and plugins right inside your WordPress control panel and lots more.
Performance Enhancements
A few other changes have been made to the system to improve overall performance. We’re adding more web nodes to Clusters 3 and 4, improving overall performance on those clusters.
We’ve also added more MySQL SmartPool boxes to Cluster 4 to improve service consistency for database users on that cluster.
