Overview

Clearing your web browser's cache can help with viewing recently changed web pages if they are not displaying properly. The following describes how to clear the cache for some of today's popular browsers.

It is very important that you stay current with the latest browser versions. Failing to do so could leave your computer vulnerable. Since the use of outdated software is not a good practice, we will only provide information about the latest versions of the most popular web browsers.

Clearing Cache on Mozilla Firefox 21

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. On the top menu bar, click on the Firefox menu.
  3. Choose the Preferences option.
  4. Select the Advanced panel (look for a gear icon).
  5. Click on the Network tab.
  6. In the Cached Web Content section, click Clear Now.
  7. Exit and relaunch the browser.

Clearing Cache on Google Chrome 27

  1. Launch Google Chrome.
  2. On the top right of the browser window, click on the Chrome menu button (three horizontal lines).
  3. Select Tools.
  4. Select "Clear browsing data".
  5. In the dialog box that appears, select the items you want to remove.
  6. Also select the time period you want. If you want to delete everything, you can select "beginning of time". 
  7. Click the "Clear browsing data" button.
  8. Exit and relaunch the browser.

Clearing Cache on Safari 6.0 for Macintosh OS X

  1. Open Safari.
  2. Click on Safari in the top menu bar.
  3. Click on Preferences.
  4. Click the Advanced tab.
  5. Click the check box next to "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
  6. Then, click on Develop in the top menu bar.
  7. To actually clear the cache, click on "Empty Caches".
  8. Exit and relaunch the browser.

Clearing Cache on Microsoft Internet Explorer 10.0

  1. Open Internet Explorer 10.
  2. Select Tools.
  3. Then, select Safety.
  4. Next, select "Delete browsing history...".
  5. Click Delete Files in the "Delete Browsing History" dialog box.
  6. In the next dialog box, you can choose what you want to remove. Typically, "Temporary Internet Files" and "Cookies" will be a good place to start.
  7. Click Delete.
  8. To go a step further, close Internet Options, then select Tools, then select Developer Tools.
  9. Then, you will see a Cache option in the main menu. Click on that, then click on "Clear browser cache...".
  10. Close and relaunch your browser.

Clearing Cache on Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0

  1. Click Start and select Settings, then Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Internet Options.
  3. Click the General tab.
  4. Click Delete under the Browsing History section.
  5. Click Delete Files in the "Delete Browsing History" dialog box.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Close.
  8. Close and relaunch your browser.

Clearing Cache on BlackBerry

Clearing the content caches clears both the rendered pages and server data:

  1. Highlight the BlackBerry browser icon and click the trackwheel.
  2. Click the trackwheel again to display the Browser Options menu.
  3. Scroll down to Options and click the trackwheel to open the browser options screen.
  4. Scroll down to General Properties and click the trackwheel to open the General Properties screen.
  5. Click the trackwheel to open the Cache menu.
  6. Scroll down to Clear Content Caches and click the track-wheel to clear the cache and return to the General Properties screen.
  7. Use the Escape button to page back through the screens to the BlackBerry main menu.

Clearing Cache on the Apple iPhone

  1. Go to Home.
  2. Click the Settings icon.
  3. Scroll down and click on Safari.
  4. Click on Clear Cache.
